On 7th December 2024 the trust rounded up 47 of their strongest indoor rowers and embarked on a hunt for some medals, at the NEC Birmingham where British rowing were holding their annual indoor rowing championship (BRIC).
The athletes all do a timed piece dependant on their year group and the athlete with the most meters take home the medals. The only exception is the year 12 and up, where they do a timed 2000m.
On the day we managed to collect 10 national medals in total surpassing our haul of 7 from last year. It was excellent to see a significant increase in the number of medals achieved in the older age groups. This is a fabulous achievement, especially when you take into account some of the schools/ boat clubs we were up against, Eton, Downey, The Grange, King’s, York are just to name a few.
This year we have had a huge focus on the standard of our indoor rowing programme, and what we saw this weekend, was a great demonstration of the pupils putting into action what they have learnt. There was a lot of very composed races and performances where we could see the team had a clear race plan and in so many cases executed it to perfection.
Along with all the medals we also had 23 finishes in the top ten positions and a lot of happy students who managed to improve in their personal best.
A huge well done to all students who took part.
