It was fantastic to see so many students enjoying their first trip to the seaside and feeling sand between their toes. The level of play was astonishing as students were able to keep the ball under control and had some fantastic rallies. Students who regularly attend camps and GORSE league competitions were excited to see their friends and rivals from other academies giving this event a ‘who’s who’ feel of volleyball across the Trust.
Primaries attended for the first time and were in awe of the secondary students’ performances, especially the England players. This was a huge step for these younger students to see how great they can become if they keep working hard and commit to the volleyball programme. We heard several say they would soon be representing England once they start secondary.
In the top division, the final was a close match between TRGA and TFA’s top players. After losing to TFA in pool play, TRGA restrategised working better as a team and were able to defeat Farnley’s finest. A big shout out to JSA too, who have worked really hard this year, which is clearly paying off. It was great to see them picking up a silver medal.
Pete did a fantastic job organising the event and working with East Riding City Council and utilising Skyball and Leeds Gorse volunteers. Thank you Helena, Abbie, Marianne, Holly and Fran for leading each division and keeping scores! Thank you to all staff members who attended and helped with the event throughout the day, along with PE staff members who ran recreational volleyball clubs and who have encouraged students to participate in volleyball this year. Your support makes a world of difference. We can’t wait to launch our beach programme in Leeds this year!
