In October, GORSE sent Director of Volleyball, Elaine Brown, and Coaching Lead, Piotr Makowski to Athens, Greece to complete their FIVB (Fédération Internationale de Volleyball) Beach Volleyball Coaching qualification.
“It was such an invigorating experience to be surrounded by knowledgeable coaches from the UK, Greece, Turkey, Slovakia, Spain, Poland, Sweden, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Azerbaijan and constantly able to exchange ideas, philosophies, techniques, strategies and learn from some of the best players and coaches in the world,” says Brown.
The course was led by 2004 beach volleyball silver medalist, Javier Bosma, renowned beach coach, Mark Kontopoulos and international referee, Jeff Brehaut. They were also joined by several guest speakers including Olympic coaches, strategists, professional commentators and technical professors.
Elaine and Pete also made great connections for future opportunities, and even made friends with the current world record holder for the most points scored in a single match, Jana Kulan. She hopes be paying GORSE a visit in the near future.
“We return to GORSE this week feeling revitalised, confident and eager to put our newly acquired knowledge into practise. We can’t wait to launch our beach programme at TFA and put our new FIVB qualification to work to help prepare our students for the 2025 Youth Commonwealth Games and 2026 Junior Olympics!”
