GORSE GETS HEALTHY

Christmas Camps & Exciting Projects

Christmas camps and 2023 exiting projects on the volleyball horizon.

“Life is often compared to a marathon, but I think it is more like being a sprinter; long stretches of hard work punctuated by brief moments in which we are given the opportunity to perform at our best,” Michael Johnson.

Daniella Tchandeu from TRGA is travelling to Germany today to represent England in the first round of CEV European Championships qualifiers! The qualification round takes place between 4-8th January and will see the Cadet Girls battle with Italy, Germany and France for the chance to play in the European age-group championships. Daniella is the first GORSE student to be selected for an international volleyball competition and is setting the bar high. We wish her all the best on this trip!

The Gorse Volleyball Camp in between Christmas and New Year proved to be another very successful volleyball training project where our students had a fantastic opportunity to train alongside the England Cadets. The England U17 boys team trained in preparation for CEV European Championships Qualifiers that will take place later this month in Bulgaria. Two juniors from Leeds have been selected for this trip along with Coach Piotr Makowski who will make his international assistant coach debut! Volleyball England coaches delivered to our students well-prepared skills training sessions and workshops on game play systems. Well done to Destiny Anderson from EHC who was voted the most valuable player of the camp!

Some big events are on the horizon include:

  • U18’s Grand Prix on the 14th and 15th January
  • Gorse League matches on the 19th January
  • U15’s Grand Prix on the 21st and 22nd January
  • Yorkshire Elite Volleyball Training on the 28th January (Inter-Regionals selection)
  • U16’s Grand Prix on the 4th and 5th of February

Holly Bentley, one of our BIG 3 volleyball coaches, was called to represent England before Christmas in their test matches against Scotland. England won both games and Holly proved to be an instrumental part of the success. She is travelling with Team England to play an international event at The Novotel Cup in Luxemburg on the 6th of January. The team will take on Luxembourg, Germany and Ireland. Good luck, Holly! England vs. Scotland – Home nations go head-to-head in festive scrimmage (volleyballengland.org)
