GORSE GETS HEALTHY

TGVC BBC Radio Leeds & CWG – 04/08/22

On Tuesday, Elaine Brown and Penny Speers were featured on BBC Radio Leeds to speak about The Gorse Volleyball Club and Leeds Gorse Volleyball Club, their recent awards from Volleyball England and their experience at the Commonwealth Games! It was wonderful to be selected for Sanchez Payne’s ‘Join our Club’ segment, and to raise awareness of the progression and success of volleyball across Leeds.

Additionally, TGVC and LGVC took two groups of juniors to watch beach volleyball at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham! It was a fantastic experience as students were able to experience this special event, take part in games and activities and watch some of the best beach volleyball teams in the world! Kevin A., from TRGA, even placed 2nd on the fastest spike speed competition for U16 boys with 44.7mph!

Students were able to watch teams compete from England, Australia, Canada, South Africa, Rwanda, Tuvalu, Cypress, Ghana and Kenya! We were even lucky enough to meet players from England and Kenya. The experience was extra special for some students as they were able to watch teams from their country of heritage play. To end the day, there was a surprise performance from Brit Awards winner, Becky Hill, which went down extremely well with our juniors!

Thank you to Elaine, Pete and Neil for organising and taking our students out for a wonderfully enriching experience!
Next week, TGVC will host its annual summer camp, followed by visits from the indoor England Men’s team and the England Cadets!
