GORSE GETS HEALTHY

U15’s National Grand Prix Success

I just wanted to share some very exciting news. On Saturday 09/04, Volleyball England hosted the third and final round of the 2022 Grand Prix National Junior Championship series at the National Volleyball Centre in Kettering. We are pleased to share the U15s boys Leeds Gorse Volleyball team placed third in the country!
This achievement puts Leeds Gorse VC and The Gorse Academies Trust on the map as an upcoming presence to watch! We received compliments from Volleyball England officials, board members, top performing clubs and coaches. As this was a rebuilding year after COVID-19 disruptions, and the first proper year of competition for our players, this is an excellent indication of future performance.
As Leeds Gorse VC is known for their excellent junior programme, they attract the best talent not only from Leeds, but also Harrogate, Huddersfield and York. Please congratulate the following students for earning a place on this team comprised of top players across the region:
Josh (year 9) – The Farnley Academy
Essay (year 9) – The Ruth Gorse Academy
Jordan (year 9) – Bruntcliffe Academy
Adam (year 10) – The Morley Academy
The volleyball programme is truly making positive impacts in the lives of our students by providing a sense of belonging in a safe environment, an outlet for physical exercise and the opportunity for high level competition. One student sent a message to the coaches after the competition which read, “Thank you for today. It was the best day of my life.”

Additionally, The Farnley Academy, The Ruth Gorse Academy and mixed TGAT teams competed against York, Sheffield and Hull in the tier 2 level U15s boys and girls Grand Prix hosted at TRGA. It’s been excellent to see the level of progress this year and as well as friendships made between students from different academies across TGAT. We are also pleased to see year 11 students supporting younger students through volunteering and assistant coaching. We are pleased to be creating a strong sense of unity and teamwork at The Gorse Volleyball Club.
