Volleyball is rapidly growing across The GORSE Academies Trust! We’ve record numbers in terms of participation during extracurricular clubs, a high-performance extracurricular club has launched across secondaries and we’ve even started The GORSE Volleyball League (TGVL)! This is the first youth volleyball league to exist in Yorkshire, and is offering opportunities for students to compete and gain experience playing matches.
From October through December, years 8-11s have and will continue to compete in 4v4 fixtures, and from January, years 7-9 will take part in competitions in the lead up to the annual GORSE Games. TGVL has been so successful in getting both students and teachers excited about the volleyball that several academies will be entering the Volleyball England National Championship series.
Students who have attended 10 sessions since September are due to receive a TGVC t-shirt, and students who have attended 10 sessions in a term will be invited to a volleyball camp this December led by the England National Women’s team! This a very special opportunity only available to GORSE students; there will also be a chance to attend a camp led by the England National Men’s Volleyball team in the spring.
Additionally, 60 GORSE students have been recruited to train and will compete for Leeds Gorse Volleyball Club. These students will be taking part in local, regional and national play with many going on to represent Yorkshire. The Leeds Club also offers pathways to the England Cadets team as well as opportunities for University scholarships and professional development.
It’s fantastic to see students express such enthusiasm and commitment towards volleyball! We at The GORSE Volleyball Club strive to offer as many opportunities as possible to allow students to progress and play. Be sure to follow GORSE Gets Healthy on social media for volleyball updates!
