On Sunday 3 July, four Gorse students from Boston Spa Academy, The Ruth Gorse Academy and Elliot Hudson College competed in the annual Junior Brid Beach Volleyball Tournament and won first place!
Each year, the Leeds Gorse Volleyball Club (LGVC) hosts the largest beach volleyball tournament in the UK. This competition takes place at Bridlington Beach and draws over 500 players who compete in 4v4 matches over two days. As the junior programme in Leeds has rapidly grown in conjuncture with The Gorse Volleyball Club, an annual Junior Brid Beach Tournament was launched two years ago.
On Sunday, both the LGVC junior boys’ and girls’ teams won first place! We are especially pleased to inform you three boys and one girl from The Gorse Academies Trust competed on the winning teams and received gold medals!
Congratulations to the following students:
Nico Sportelli (year 12) from Elliot Hudson College was the boys’ team captain. He was instrumental in leading the team to victory and was even named the Tournament MVP!
Maciej Goldyn (year 10) attends The Ruth Gorse Academy and has been a dedicated player as well as a volleyball advocate over the past four years.
Ariel Nsanja (year 7) from Boston Spa Academy only started playing a few months ago but has a phenomenally strong work ethic and is quick to learn.
Yara Maghdid (year 9) from The Ruth Gorse Academy was named the girls’ Tournament MVP for her unstoppable serves!
We are over the moon with the amount of progress these students have made as well as their ability to model and achieve excellence.
